Against its neighbors, Westwood splits the difference: Dedham brings similar convenience with a much larger district, while Dover has the acreage but no station or retail center of its own.

The transportation setup is what no abutting town can match. Route 128 Station sits inside Westwood at University Station, served by every Amtrak Acela and Northeast Regional — the only Acela stop between Back Bay and Providence — plus MBTA Providence/Stoughton commuter rail trains that reach South Station in 23 to 27 minutes, backed by a 2,578-space garage. University Station itself spans 2.1 million square feet with Wegmans, Target, Nordstrom Rack, and Life Time Athletic, and Legacy Place sits just over the Dedham line. Drive ten minutes the other way and the town turns rural: Hale Reservation's 1,100-plus acres of woods, four ponds, and more than 20 miles of trails link into Noanet Woodlands and Powisset Farm, part of a 2,000-plus-acre corridor of permanently protected conservation land.
