Overview
Manomet is the seaside village on Plymouth's stretch of Cape Cod Bay south of downtown, named for the Wampanoag village that stood among the Manomet Ponds. It is not a separate town. Manomet is governed by the Town of Plymouth, whose legislature is a 162-member Representative Town Meeting elected from 18 precincts, and it shares Plymouth's tax rate and school district. The Manomet post office has its own ZIP code, 02345, but it is for PO boxes only. Homes and businesses use Plymouth's 02360, so ZIP-based market reports fold Manomet into Plymouth's numbers.
The shoreline shapes daily life. White Horse Beach is operated by the Town of Plymouth, with a public lot off Taylor Avenue and a comfort station at the Hilltop Avenue entrance, and from late May through Labor Day a resident beach sticker is required to park anywhere in the White Horse Beach Parking District. Several shoreline neighborhoods, including Manomet Bluffs, Fisherman's Landing and Priscilla Beach, are private beach neighborhoods, so buyers should confirm beach rights and any association fees for a given street. The village's July 3 bonfires on the beach date to the 1800s, and Manomet, the bird conservation nonprofit founded here in 1969 as the Manomet Bird Observatory, still carries the village's name.
Manomet has no train station. Rail riders drive to Kingston station, the end of the MBTA Kingston Line in the next town north of Plymouth, where weekday trains reach South Station in about an hour, and Plymouth & Brockton buses run from the Plymouth Park & Ride at Route 3, Exit 13, to South Station and Logan Airport. Route 3 also runs south to the Sagamore Bridge and Cape Cod. Manomet Elementary School, at 70 Manomet Point Road, serves kindergarten through grade 5. Plymouth Public Schools has 13 schools and 6,817 students in 2025-26, including two high schools, Plymouth North and Plymouth South.
